RSD was founded in 2008 by Richard Ranson, as a design, consultancy and training business specialising in RF and microwave devices. The company has a broad background in these areas with CAD, prototype development and laboratory testing facilities. It also has close ties with other companies for some additional services and expertise when required.
Richard G Ranson received his BSc from the University of Leeds in England in 1976 and a PhD in 1979 also from Leeds. He has worked in the microwave electronics industry for more than 35 years; first for Philips in the UK then in the US, primarily for Watkins Johnson in Palo Alto. He returned to the UK in 1996, joining Filtronic Comtek as Subsystems Engineering Director. He was instrumental in the rapid growth and expansion of Filtronic plc, later becoming Engineering Director for the Integrated Products Division.
He is presently the founder and Technical Director at Radio System Design Ltd. He is also a visiting professor at LeedsUniversity, a past member and chair of IEEE MTT Technical Paper Review committees, past chair of the European Conference on Wireless Technology, TPC Chair for EuMW in 2006 in Manchester and a past member of the Board of Directors of the European Microwave Association EuMA.
